Dr. Jorge Alió, professor and chairman of ophthalmology at the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche, will present the First Seminar of Continuing Education in Ophthalmology, which will take place on Saturday 16th January, at the Palacio de Congresos del Ilustre of the College of Physicians of Alicante. At this meeting, entitled “Update on the diagnosis and treatment of retinal pathology”, the professionals from the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid, the University General Hospital of Elche and VISSUM Corporation in Alicante will present the reports and case studies devoted to retinal diseases treatment. This event forms part of the activities of the Ophthalmic Research Thematic Network OFTALRED.
The Seminar will start at 10.30 with the introduction made by Jorge Alió, who has been recently presented with ‘ISRS Presidential Award’, a prestigious award which recognizes his dedication and contribution in the field of refractive surgery and to the International Society of Refractive Surgery. It will be followed with the report “Geographic atrophy of the macula” by Dr. Pedro Amat from the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche. After that Dr. Marta Suárez de Figueroa, from the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid and the University Alcala de Henares, will make a speech entitled “Update on macular surgery “. She will also present reports “Surgical management of macular hole in highly myopic eyes” and “Clinical trials: surgical treatment of myopic traction maculopathy”
After a break Dr. Francisco Lugo, from VISSUM Corporation, will present the report called “Update on intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy for wet macular degeneration”. Lastly, Dr. Aida Navarro, from the University General Hospital of Elche and the Miguel Hernandez University of Elche will deliver a speech entitled “Retinal Necrosis”.
