Jorge Alio, the doctor and professor, was awarded the prestigious award that pays a posthumous tribute to a biochemist Alberto Sols
Doctor Jorge Alio collected the Alberto Sols Award for the ‘Best Research Work’ at the XVII edition of the award ceremony that took place at the Cervantes Theatre in Sax. These prestigious awards pay a posthumous tribute to a biochemist Alberto Sols Garcia in his 102nd birth anniversary. In this way, Antonio Alcami Pertejo and Dr. Alio, the professor of Ophthalmology at the Miguel Hernandez University (UMH) of Elche, were awarded the prizes by the scientific committee, for their extensive professional careers in the respective research areas.
Dr. Jorge Alio, an expert in diseases of the anterior segment of the eye at the international level, succeed the microbiologist Francisco Juan Martínez Mojica from Elche, who had been awarded this prize in the previous call. Jorge Alio is famous for his studies on cell therapy for treatment of keratoconus at advanced stages. He is also a specialist in cataract surgery, intraocular lenses and glaucoma. Moreover, he was a pioneer in the introduction of refractive surgery in Spain, along with new techniques for corneal transplantation and intraocular lenses. It should be also reminded, that Jorge Alio, the scientific director of ophthalmological clinic Vissum, is a specialist in cataract surgery, as well as an exclusive technique for eye colour changes for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons.
The event was organized by the Sax City Council in collaboration with the Valencia Regional Government, the Regional Government of Alicante, the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernandez University (UMH) of Elche. Moreover, Alberto Sols’ son, Jaime Sols, assisted the event as a guest of honor.
